Where I live, there are several banks that will let you open an account, as long as two years have past since you were first put in chex systems. look around for one of the bigger banks, you might have better luck.

I suggest a credit union, if there is one fairly close to her. They are much more lenient, and it usually doesn%26#039;t take much money to keep an account open. If she uses a credit union, she may be able to set up a little savings account that any overdrafts could be pulled from.

What might be more beneficial for her is to have her paychecks loaded onto a prepaid debit card and just use the card until it%26#039;s used up. That sounds a little cold-blooded, but it will save on NSF check charges. Some people just weren%26#039;t cut out to reconcile bank records and keep their checking accounts up.

I have an aunt with the same problem, and it has nothing to do with age or anything else, just the fact that she isn%26#039;t good with it. She%26#039;s almost 60 now, and has had this problem since she got her very first job at age 18.

I know you sincerely want to help her, but in some circumstances and situations, it%26#039;s hard to do. Maybe you could set aside a little money (not a whole lot, because she%26#039;s going to spend it for you) to bail her out with from time to time.

One plan that may work well is to set aside, oh, say $150. When she calls and says she%26#039;s in trouble, tell her you can loan her $150, but she%26#039;ll have to pay it back and then don%26#039;t loan her any more until she%26#039;s repaid it. That%26#039;s what my husband and I did. We had friends who would borrow and borrow until we had a hard time paying our own bills. So when Friend A needed money, we%26#039;d loan whatever out, but when Friend B came around if Friend A hadn%26#039;t paid it back, we%26#039;d say, %26quot;Well, when Friend A pays us what he owes us, we can loan you ___.%26quot; That worked pretty well for us and cut down on the number of people seeking handouts.

It may be time for some %26quot;tough love.%26quot;

If she has paid off the debt to her previous bank, get in touch with Chexsystems and you can be removed from their records. If not, it will be very hard to find a bank that will give her an account.
