The best way to do this is to get a referral from someone that has used an agent in your area that they really liked.

Well I called them today because the person driving hasn%26#039;t contacted my lawyer back with her information, so I called CUNA to ask if they even have a policy with her and they said that if she does, she wouldn%26#039;t have liability coverage. First of all, if you carry a balance on any of your credit cards pay them off. Credit card interests are usually way high and it%26#039;ll take you forever to pay it off and will make it harder for you to stick to your budget.

Now look at your monthly income and expenses. After paying for rent, utilities, car insurance, car payment, food, what are you spending your money on? Are you buying clothing, eating out, knick knacks, and going to concerts/entertainment type of stuff. After you spend money on the necessities, if you are spending a lot on things you can do without, you can cut back on those things. Say only buy one new item of clothing a month. Say only eat out twice a month. Say only go to the movies once or twice a month. Brown bag your lunches instead of going out to eat. Make your own coffee instead of buying Starbucks coffee.

It isn%26#039;t wise to be in debt just to have a nice set of wheels. You might not know this but car values depreciate. As soon as you buy a new car and drive it off the lot, its value will have depreciated 20%. Consider buying a 2-3 yr old Infinity. They will be just as nice but won%26#039;t cost as much as a brand new one. You should also put at least 10% of your money into a savings account. That is money you can use in the future for a rainy day or for another high ticket item. Well, there are a couple of things. If he really, truly owes the money, he should pay it. However, what many people do with old debts like this is contact the credit bureaus and dispute it. He should pull a copy of his credit report from every bureau (TransUnion, Equifax, Experian) to see if it shows on each report. Some (I believe 2 of the 3) allow disputes online. The company has 30 days to respond to the credit bureau%26#039;s inquiry. If they do not, I believe it has to be removed from the report.

Many of the %26#039;credit clean up%26#039; companies you see advertised do exactly this. They dispute and dispute until someone messes up and doesn%26#039;t reply on time.

Here%26#039;s what probably happened. The bad debt was indeed written off by UAC. They did this because it isn%26#039;t worth $3-5000 of legal fees to collect a $2500 debt. However, it only means they wrote it off as bed debt (a business expense) on their books. The debt still exists. Your brother still owes the money until it is paid. If it was more than 7 years ago, the bad information fell off his credit report which is why he wasn%26#039;t dinged during his recent mortgage application. BUT (here comes the fun part), there are some collection companies that purchase (at pennies on the dollar) lists of bad debts from banks and finance companies. These debt collectors now own the rights to collect the debt.

So now this new collection agency is going to make your brother%26#039;s life miserable. They will call him and call him and threaten and call your Mom names . . . . They will probably not get off his back until it is paid . . . . and maybe not then.

So here%26#039;s what he needs to do:

1. He needs to save up about $800.

2. He needs to call UAC and tell them that he has a long-standing debt with them and would like to offer them $800 as PAYMENT IN FULL (make sure you use that phrase) to settle the debt. As old as this debt is, they will be thrilled to get that amount.

3. Make sure to tell UAC that you need a letter in writing saying they will accept the $800 as PAYMENT IN FULL before you can send payment.

4. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should he: (a) give anyone electronic access to his checking account to settle this debt -- or they will clean him out! (b) send any money until he has a letter from UAC indicating acceptance of the payment as PAYMENT IN FULL (make sure those words are included).

5. When he gets that letter from UAC, send a certified check or bank money order (keep a copy) along with a photocopy of the letter from UAC to UAC.

6. Keep a copy of UAC%26#039;s agreement letter and the money order in a safe or bank deposit box for the rest of his LIFE!

7. Every time he gets a call from a collection agency (which he will continue to get until he gets this mess cleaned up and which he will likely get 10 years from now after the mess is cleaned up), send them a copy of the letter and the bank money order showing that UAC accepted a $800 payment as PAYMENT IN FULL (I%26#039;m being repetitive hoping you will get the point that this is an important phrase to have in writing). Then tell them to cease and desist contacting you about this debt that was already paid.

8. Finally, go to a bookstore or www.daveramsey.com and get your brother the book %26quot;The Total Money Makeover%26quot; by Dave Ramsey. He can read it in 2-3 days and it will tell him exactly what to do in situations like this and how to avoid doing stupid stuff with money in the future. It is the best step-by-step how-to financial book out there for the not-so-financially-gifted that is on the market today. You should buy it for him as your contribution to keep him out of trouble (and keep him from crying to you) for the rest of his life.

I recently had a negative charge-off that I paid in full removed from Equifax. I did not dispute this item w/ Trans Union or Experian because I didn%26#039;t want my score to go way down by disputing items, so i only contacted Equifax. The paid charge-off has been deleted from Equifax and now I think it is only fair that TU and Experian remove this derogitory item as well as I am trying to obtain a mortgage and this is highly affecting my score. Once this got removed, my Equifax score went up over 100 points. If i Dispute this with the other 2 major bureaus, can the colleciton agency come back and say that they won%26#039;t delete it from the TU and Experian? Why would they remove it from one bureau and not the other 2, can this happen, or since it is deleted from Equifax, the other 2 bureaus have to report the same thing? There is a difference between erasing a record and fixing a record. If you had a debt, and you pay, the record of the debt is not erased. Merely, another entry is made to the effect that you paid. It could be your situation. That said, there are circumstances where a record can be erased. One common is the mistaken entry. If you can prove that what the record says is wrong, the bureaus would erase the record.

The mission of the bureaus is to keep information of individuals so banks and others can judge creditworthiness. That is the reason why they accept new information when it comes, or why they correct mistakes when pointed out.

If I were you, I would request my credit report from the other bureaus. If the problem exist on their records, explain the same thing you explained to the Equifax. You paid your debt, the collection agency is duty bound to confirm this when asked. Once the bureaus confirm it, the record would be erased/modified. If the problem is not registered, just move on with your life. The situation is as if the record was erased.

I have some experience with this i had a small bill taht i paid back. i asked why only one credit agency had shown it as being paid. The comp. i paid said they only have to report to one credit bureau. Its actually good to dispute items on your credit report if it means accurate info. which will improve your score as it did with equifax. my advice keep all reciepts of payments from old creditors if they dont remove or update your file. certify mail them a copy of the payment and just send a note that say please update my credit report this debt is paid. thats what i did for a few bills i had that companys failed to notify all 3 bureaus. always get a reciept thats your only proof you paid. just mail them proof you paid or settled or whatever and they should fix it. it worked for me. good luck.

I had a similar experience on my credit profile. They basically ignored my requests.

I then submitted a letter that specifically listed each negative item as well as the exact words that should replace that item. It was so exact that a child would have known how to fix it. I mailed it to them via certified US Mail and got most of it corrected. In my letter, I also explained the inadequate response that they provided the first time, which was why the letter was necessary.

The following article shows what normally goes into a credit report. The employer information comes from a credit application that you filed years ago, possibly on a mortgage application, but it could have been anything.

I just went through this. Don%26#039;t send payments by western union. Then you have no proof of the transaction. You should only send payments through your bank because they have a tracer number and record of the transaction.

This is a very common scam. I manage a bank and help on average two customers a month or so with this situation. I%26#039;m guessing they sent you a check that said, %26quot;Deposit this, but send us back $700 to cover the insurance.%26quot;

This is the next series of events if you decide to do this: First, you will deposit the check. If your bank does not put a hold on this check, you will likely have your money the next day. You will take the money from the account and send the Western Union, which at that point is perfectly good funds. They will get your money. Then, the check they wrote you will come back bogus, fake, counterfeit, or otherwise. Your bank will pull all $5000 out of your account, plus you will be out the $700 sent through Western Union, and any fees you will have accrued by spending this money before the check cleared the other bank. Best case scenario you will be out $700; worst case, $5700 plus any overdraft fees, returned check fees, etc.

Not to be abrupt, but Western Union won%26#039;t be able to help you either. Once a wire is sent, it%26#039;s sent; remember, the money the scammers gave you was no good, but the money you sent through Western Union was perfectly fine as far as they%26#039;re concerned.

Remember, if it%26#039;s too good to be true, it probably isn%26#039;t. And, if you didn%26#039;t apply for a loan with these people then they can%26#039;t possibly offer you a loan. Good luck and you are very smart for researching first!

I also encountered similar experience whereby they asked me to send collateral fee of S$700. But I told them I got no money and finally no news. I have realised that no one will lend you money from another countries or without verifying your credit worthiness. If they want insurance, then they should deduct the amount from the loan and give you net amount.

If I understand your question, you are having difficulties making the monthly payments on your debt. Consolidation is not really a good answer because your credit score is probably pretty low right now and if you can get one your interest rate will be pretty high. You also have those credit cards still available and you could (and most people that go this route do) end up running up the credit cards again. Now you have twice the debt and no solution.

There are a bunch of scams out there and a lot of people that will try to rip you off under the guise of repairing your credit. Go with a reputable organization that will help you and not rip you off. I have worked with Consumer Credit Counseling Service for a couple years and they have been great. They can help you work with your creditors to reduce payments and interest and they have educational information to help you to manage credit better.
