Where do I go to exchange US dollars to Euros?

I%26#039;m planning to leave for Europe in about a week and a half. But where do I exchange my USD for Euros? I%26#039;ve heard that credit unions or FedX does this service.

Airports, European McDonalds (seriously) I don%26#039;t know about credit unions or FedEx.

Note in response to the people recommending ATMs: If you pay attention to the signs on ATMs in Europe, you will see that they usually charge around 2-3% of your withdrawal as a fee. If you take out 200 Euro, you could potentially pay 6 Euro (or even more) as a fee.

Airports usually have the worst exhange rates, I agree.

Remember you can use check cards with a visa logo some places. But European credit / check cards usually don%26#039;t have the magnetic stripe, they usually have the gold smart card chip.

Hate to sound like a smart-a.ss, but... a nearby currency exchange...?

It is easiest to do at the currency exchange booth at the airport. When I went to Europe last summer, I just used my ATM card when I got there, and it issued Euros. It is all pretty simple. Using the card also means that you are not carrying cash around, and the machines work as well and as easily as they do here.

Have a great time!

When I went to Germany I was able to do it at their airport. I was just a tiny drop more expensive than looking for an exchange on the street, but it was well worth it.

You can wait until you get to your country of destination. At the airport they have an ATM machine you can make a withdrawal from.

On your trip either make purchases using your ATM card or just withdrawal euros from any ATM machine, they are located everywhere and at every post office.

NOTE: ATM machines in Europe take money out of your checking account only, not from savings.

There are what is called Currency exchanges in major cities. Look in the phone book. And there is always ones at Airports that fly abroad. I flew to Canada and exchange my money right at the Airport before I departed, and did the same thing when I arrived back in the states.

You%26#039;ll get the best exchange rate by withdrawing money from your checking account via an ATM in Europe. You must have a numerical PIN number. Check the back of your card to see if your bank is on the PLUS or CIRRUS system. That%26#039;s the kind of ATM you%26#039;ll want to use.

Hope that helps!

If you choose to use your ATM card let your bank know. If they see unusual activity thy may suspend activity till you can be reached. I would carry some cash one me but I would use my ATM card. You%26#039;ll get a better rate plus it is easier. Odds are your hotel has a machine in it somewhere.

Train stations and airports are best. ATM machines charge too much and many may not take your card. Travelers checks are good too and I never had problems cashing them. I know American Express travel has an exchange booth if you need to change before you leave.
